We love Netflix in the Simply Homemade home, we have all developed a genuine love affair with it, so much so that we cancelled our Sky subscription after 12 years! I’ve compiled 10 reasons why I love it, feel free to add your reasons to love Netflix in the comments.
There is nothing more frustrating than all the ads on regular tv, in particular the ones geared towards children who then insist that they really need that plastic talking animal or the doll that wees……..Netflix is gloriously ad free.
Wealth of Choice
We’ve all done it haven’t we, flicked through the hundreds of channels that we should be so grateful to have and still found nothing to watch. That won’t happen with Netflix, there is a massive library of movies, tv shows and documentaries all on hand to watch. New content is added regularly, meaning there is always something to watch.
Age Appropriate Viewing
One of the brilliant features with Netflix is the ability to set individual profiles for family members so that you can rest assured the content they’re streaming is completely age appropriate.
Netflix are producing some fantastic original content…..Orange is the New Black, Narcos, House of Cards, Bloodline, Grace & Frankie, Marco Polo, All Hail King Julien and Care Bears & Cousins to name just a few.
Rainy Day Entertainment
No more ‘I’m bored’, our middle child in particular loves nothing more than watching a good movie. Wet, miserable afternoons can now be treat days with a good movie & popcorn. Recently we have watched Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Despicable Me 2 and Beethoven’s Christmas Adventure.
If you haven’t watched this….DO!! It’s brilliant, I love it. Norma Bates is the type of mother you don’t want to be. If ever you feel you’re being over protective, watch this lady in action….you’re grand!!
I love the selection of documentaries Netflix has on offer, which includes, Chef’s Table, Pentatonix: On My Way Home (my eldest girl loves these!), Robin Williams Remembered; Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead, Secrets of Highclere Castle (aka Downton Abbey) and Fed Up.
You know how it is? You need to make a phone call, go to the loo, make dinner etc and you need a
babysitter distraction for the children. Netflix works every time, put on Mother Goose Club and let little people sing and dance to their hearts content, entertainment and exercise in one show, brilliant stuff.
Never Miss A Show Again
Isn’t it frustrating when you’re watching something and the phone rings or somebody comes to the door, your show is interrupted and you miss a vital bit. Or you record your show and then the kids ‘accidentally’ delete it; well that won’t happen with Netflix, your favourite shows are there, if they’re interrupted for whatever reason you can simply continue where you left off, you’ll never miss a vital bit again.
Just 5 More Minutes
Netflix have recently added something which I think is genius. We allow our Cuddlemonster cartoon time in the evening for a little while before he gets into his pyjamas, however recently it’s been proving increasingly difficult to lure him away from his favourite shows so you can imagine my delight when I read about Netflix solution to Bedtime Delay Tactics; they have launched 5 minute favourites of Dino Trux, one of the Cuddlemonster’s favourite shows, so now he can have his ‘5 more minutes’ and there’s no more cross words! With the launch of five-minute-long ‘favourites’ of the hit series Dinotrux from DreamWorks Animation, parents can offer up an ENTIRE SHOW – that’s 300 whole seconds, kids – to motivate little ones to get ready for bedtime, pronto. Kids will think they’re getting away with murder, but parents will get the last laugh when the show ends after just five minutes and the kids are tucked in on time. Parents: 1, Kids’ Bedtime Stalls: 0.To watch on Netflix simply search for 5 Minute Favourites.
So there you have it, 10 good reasons to love Netflix. I’d love to hear what you love about it too.
As a member of the Netflix Ireland Stream Team I have received complimentary Netflix membership and in return will be featuring Netflix related blog posts. All opinions are my own!
