Ballycross Apple Farm

I have a very early childhood memory that features my Nana standing in her kitchen, drying her hands and hanging the towel on the rail of the solid fuel cooker and saying, ‘Now we’re ready to go’ I asked her where we were going and she replied, ‘Ballycross, to get the apples’.

That’s quite a number of years ago now. Every year we went to Ballycross Farm and now here I am bringing my own children. Actually, one of my sons will only eat Ballycross Farm apples! I have even made a ‘Wexford Scone’ that includes Ballycross apples.
We’ve been in all weathers, we’ve seen Santa there at Christmas time, we’ve been there for Christmas carols and lights been switched on. There’s something very magical about the place that draws so many.

As Halloween approaches visitors to Ballycross Farm have the opportunity to board the tractor and trailer and go to pick their own pumpkins from the pumpkin patch. We arrived at 12 today, opening time and such is the popularity of Ballycross, a queue had formed that was filled with anticipation for a fun afternoon on the farm.

There is a wealth of activities and attractions at Ballycross Farm. A map is available at the entrance which shows you where everything is and includes the routes for four walks that you can do; one for 20 minutes approximately, one for approximately 30 minutes and two more that are around 40 minutes long.

There is a pedal Go-Kart track and a bouncy castle, opportunities to feed the chickens and some of the other animals. For younger children, there are a number of ride on tractors, carts, and chalkboards. One can even avail of a pony and cart ride for €2 per person. There is a lovely café in the courtyard and ample seating, where it is so nice to sit and watch the hustle and bustle.

Each weekend between now and Halloween, you can enjoy pumpkin picking trips. To get to the Pumpkin Patch, take a wander through the Witches Village and meet the resident Ballycross Witch!

Admission to Ballycross Farm, including Pumpkin Picking Tractor & Trailer Ride is as follows:
Child €4.50
Adult €5.50
Family (2+3) €20
Family (2+2) €19
The pumpkins are priced according to size. You can walk to the Pumpkin Patch if you’d prefer, just specify on entry and your admission will be priced accordingly (Adults: €4 Children: €3 Family rate: 2 Adults and 3 children €15)

Would I recommend Ballycross Apple Farm? Absolutely! Autumn isn’t complete without a visit here. As the small boy said on the way home, ‘I love this ‘radition’!! So dig out your wellies and off you go, enjoy farm life for an afternoon.
