Mr. Simply Homemade and I have had a lovely weekend away in Cork. On the way down last Friday we decided to stop in Dungarvan for something to eat. The Tannery has been on my ‘must visit’ list for a long time now, and now I have, it has quickly made it onto my ‘must visit again’ list.
From the moment we stepped inside the door we were impressed. The staff were lovely and we were promptly shown upstairs to a table, given menus and glasses of water.
The menu is very sumptuous and included a lunch special that consisted of a starter, main course and glass of wine for €23, excellent value. We opted for this and as Mr. Simply Homemade was driving, I ‘had’ to have the two glasses of wine, the things I do for that man!!
The bread was delivered to the table in a charming little bucket and was absolutely delicious. As regular readers will know, we are big fans of homemade bread and this is without doubt, some of the best we have ever sampled.
We both ordered the Smoked Salmon & Beetroot Salad to start. My mouth is watering just thinking about it again, from the selection of salad leaves, edible flowers, the croutons, the dressing; every mouthful was sheer joy. This was good simple food served in an excellent fashion, a stunning selection of flavours.
For the main course Mr Simply Homemade ordered the Seafood Stew. Packed full of flavour this was a real taste sensation, with a great variety of seafood. He thoroughly enjoyed and savoured every mouthful.
I chose to have the Half Chicken with Creamed Corn. A very generous dish that could only be described as melt in the mouth, it was divine.
The mashed potatoes that accompanied the chicken dish were just fabulous, like a warm hug from your plate.
It’s also worth mentioning, the wine, white, was marvellous too!
I cannot recommend The Tannery enough, it was the highlight of our weekend and Mr. Simply Homemade knows (and agrees), but the important thing is, he knows that I want to return here again.
