This is my Mam’s Brown Bread recipe, she made this every week without fail and there was always a few loaves in the freezer. No matter what events were occurring in the local community, be it the local field day, a fundraising bake sale or a charity coffee morning, she always got requests for her bread.
Ingredients (for 2 loaves)
400g Wholemeal Flour
50g Plain Flour
75g Porridge Oats
75g Oat Bran
150g Pinhead Oatmeal
2.5tsp Bread Soda
1 Litre Buttermilk
Preheat the oven to 200C & grease to loaf tins.
Combine all the dry ingredients in a bowl, mix in the buttermilk. Stir the mixture well making sure everything is combined. Divide the mix between the two tins & bake in the oven for 50 mins – 1 hour.
