Festive Baking with Enthusiastic Toddlers :)

I groan on the inside when I hear people say Christmas is just for children, it isn’t, Christmas is for everyone!! However, it is true to say they do make it that more special. My youngest children are now 2 1/2 & 21 months, my Irish twins, born 11 months apart.  Abbie is super excited this year and is simply amazed at Christmas everywhere, Harry is a curious and highly amused little boy, loving all the excitement going on around him.

Today I promised Abbie I would bake some Christmas cookies for them. I took out my Christmas bible, Nigella’s Kitchen, she has a lovely recipe for what she calls Gold Dust Cookies, I call them Ginger Cookies! Not a bit of gold dust in sight, but lots of giggles and a flour snowstorm! This is a good recipe as you can make the dough without saying anything to the toddlers, get them ready while it rests in the fridge and away you go. Older children would be able to help with the dough making aswell.

Baking with toddlers is a messy business, but it is also great fun. It’s one of those simple little things that creates an abundance of laughter and pride in your little people. Don’t let the mess put you off, it’s cleaned up in a few minutes. This is free fun, can be done anytime and adds something different and exciting to a little person’s day. Abbie was nearly fit to burst waiting to show off her creations to her big sisters and brother today. It was lovely and the praise she received really made her day!
