This post is completely inspired by two of my very lovely friends who have been making these with their own daughters; so thank you Olivia & Marguerite!
These decorations are simple to make, extremely pretty and, I think, make a beautiful, personal gift from children.
What you need:
1 Cup/225g Bread Soda
1/2 Cup/55g Cornflour
3/4 Cup/140ml of Warm Water
A Straw to make holes for the ribbon(or a skewer or knitting needle will work either)
Baking sheet lined with parchment paper
Preheat the oven to 100C/80C Fan
Mix the dry ingredients together in your saucepan, then stir through the warm water.
Stir over a medium heat. The mixture will start to bubble and come away from the sides of the saucepan.stirring as it starts to bubble and come away from the sides of the pan.
When it has started to dry and resemble a soft play dough consistency, take it off the heat and leave it to cool for a few minutes.
Turn it out onto a clean surface and knead it for a couple of minutes to make it soft and pliable. It should look and feel like bright white play dough.
Roll out the dough and sprinkle glitter over the top, alternatively, using some festive cookie cutters, cut out the shapes and then sprinkle on the glitter (personally we found the latter option worked better)
Stick the straw through the top to make a hole for threading ribbon through later on.
Place them straight onto the lined baking sheet and dry them in the oven for an hour. (They also dry perfectly if just left out in the air at room temperature for a day or so, depending on the thickness of the dough, I can’t imagine many little people would be that patient however!!)
Once they are completely hard thread with ribbon, wrap carefully to present as gifts or adorn your christmas tree with them and watch them shimmer in the festive light.
