Two of my fabulous followers Olivia & Niamh are joining the Simply Homemade family today to share their festive music and memories stories.
My Dad was always a big fan of music. I remember one year I bought him a cd player and some cd’s for Christmas so he could play his music. He was thrilled. It was very funny listening to him sing along, making up his own words and humming the parts he didn’t know.
The moment I hear the opening strains of The Pogues classic, Fairytale of New York I think of my Dad. I find myself smiling and singing my Dad’s made up version instead of the proper one!
I love all Christmas songs but The Christmas Alphabet holds a special place in my heart as it reminds me of my Mum. Christmas was her absolute favourite time of the year.
I personally used to love Mariah’s classic All I want for Christmas but it was the first Christmas song I heard after my mum passed away and all I could think was all I wanted was her so now I can’t listen to that anymore without welling up.
It is a pleasure to feature you both on the blog Olivia & Niamh; and thank you both so very much for sharing your memories. Music has a wonderful way of bringing people together and capturing memories that can be treasured forever.
I would absolutely love to hear what Christmas songs evoke particular memories for you. If you don’t write a blog and wish to share your ‘Music and Memories’ you are welcome to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org; otherwise just hit the link on the original and add your post.
