Books for Children

We Are Reading…..

Bedtime brings bedtime stories for our Little Miss Abbie. I will share with you from time to time which stories she’s really enjoying.

At the moment we’re reading at least four bedtime stories everynight.

Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson

We get very excited with this story, it’s a lovely tale of friendship with a wonderful cast of characters. Julia Donaldson has an incredible talent for rhyming a story in such a way that you can get really into character as you read it. Abbie loves this, we skip along through the first few pages then pick up an excited pace when the dragon appears. If you’re not familiar with these books I highly recommend them.

The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson

All three older children are familiar with The Gruffalo and know the story well, I was certain we had a copy of it, but apparently I was wrong-we didn’t!! That was soon rectified and I bought one a little while ago. Abbie thoroughly enjoys listening to the tale of the clever mouse and his encounters in the ‘deep dark wood’ It is an absolutely charming story. The Gruffalo’s Child, the follow up to the Gruffalo is on our to buy list as we don’t have that either, I will have to buy it soon as I’m getting daily requests now!!

A Squash and a Squeeze by Julia Donaldson

sasI know, a third Julia Donaldson book, it’s a testament to how good her books are. A Squash and a Squeeze is a funny little tale that has a hidden message showing us how to appreciate what we have. Abbie loves it, and has heard it so many times, she can tell me which animals appear first, before I read it out. It is another must have for all kids bookshelves.

Because I Love You by Julia Hubery

I absolutely love this book and have been reading it to Abbie since she was 9 months old, I actually know it by heart. It is a tender little tale which highlights the simple joy in every day with your little one. The words and the illustrations, which are a big hit with Abbie, are simply beautiful.

If you would like to learn more about The Gruffalo, there is a lovely website dedicated to the character which you can visit by clicking here.
