Before She Said ‘I Do’

I can’t remember the last time I felt so emotional. I was always going to feel emotional of course, it’s not every day your little sister, your only sister, gets married.

She planned the whole day herself, took charge of everything. Along with her now husband, they left no stone unturned and produced the most amazing day. Many have since suggested a change of career, party planning would be perfect for this pair.

As many of you are aware, our Mam is no longer with us, so my sister decided that the night of her wedding would be spent with her bridal party somewhere nice and she would get ready there in the morning. Her venue of choice was Monart Destination Spa in Enniscorthy.

From the moment we got out of the car Thursday afternoon in Monart we didn’t have to lift a finger. The staff are very attentive and no request was too big or small. We all had treatments as part of our stay and then we relaxed until our evening meal.

My sister, despite this occasion being about her and her fiancé, presented each of us who were staying with her with gift boxes, personalised to each one of us…….yes, I did shed a tear!

One of the many things I loved about Monart was the lack of wifi! Seriously. Here is where you go to switch off, to unwind and completely chill out. Wander the gardens in your robe, sit on your balcony and just listen to nature, relax in the lounge with a coffee or a glass of wine.

We had dinner booked in the restaurant that evening. The waiter was brilliant, very informative, on hand for whatever we needed and as we say in Wexford, generally sound! From the Amuse Bouche to the Sorbet, not forgetting the breads; the food was outstanding. I’m not mad about desserts but I would have happily licked the plate clean here!

Dessert (almost) too good to eat!

As we finished dessert and were relaxing over a cuppa, my sister was presented with another little surprise in the restaurant. We’d been given a glass of bubbles at the beginning of the meal to wish her well for her wedding day!

These thoughts were very much appreciated and totally unexpected. I can’t compliment the restaurant enough and will definitely be back here for Sunday lunch with Mr. Simply Homemade as they are open for that to the public as well as residents.

Breakfast in the restaurant the following morning, just like dinner the night before, was absolutely delicious. There was an abundance of delectable options on offer and just what we needed to set us up for the exciting day ahead.

My sister had one of the two suites available in Monart and we had the use of this until it was time to go to the church. These rooms are stunning and were so spacious, ideal for seven ladies, a hairdresser, make-up artist, photographer and videographer!

The suites are in the old house that is the front of Monart and made a beautiful setting for photographs too.

The wonderful Lily Bloom florist from Wexford town delivered the flowers during the morning. They were stunning and a complete surprise as my sister had just told Debbie, the proprietor, what the theme was and left her faith in her.

This was also the moment where I shed another tear or two as my Aunt and I were presented with the most beautiful bouquets. Again, this was totally unexpected and very much appreciated.

Now before I go any further, I must give mention to the Brides shoes. You may well have never seen anything like them before. She was away with her then finacé and friends last year and spotted these in Amsterdam. They came back to Ireland with her and were her wedding shoes. Aren’t they just brilliant?

Full credit to Heather from Afford Your Wedding in Wexford for the shoe photograph, she captured them perfectly. Heather and Philip were both amazing on the day, I can’t compliment them enough.

One would imagine the early start would mean time is plentiful but as with any wedding day morning time simply flew by and before we knew it final checks were being done and it was time to depart Monart.

As her girls helped her into Verity the VW, the rest of us got into our cars and made our way to the church, and, to the many other surprises the bride in groom had in store for us!

I’ll save the wedding day details for another post. If you have any questions regarding any of the services I mentioned in the post, please just ask.

I wasn’t asked to mention any of the aforementioned services, I’m just sharing highlights from a most special day, however, I would have no hesitation in recommending any of them and if you would like to see a detailed post regarding dresses, hair, make up; let me know and I will put it together when my sister gets back from sunning her toes!
