New To Me Coffee Table

We’ve given our sitting room a huge makeover, which I will share later. It’s a room that is bringing us much joy now. It is warm, cosy and finally how we want it.

Coffee Table | Simply Homemade

I didn’t buy a new coffee table despite the one I have being a bit battered and worn. The table has been with us for six years. It has held popcorn for movie nights, chocolate & wine for chill-out nights, cookies and cakes for fairy parties. Santa’s cookies and even make up for a pyjama party have all been on this table. A good table with stories to tell that is well capable of serving us for many years to come.

The colour scheme in the sitting room is Raspberry Crumble and Mezeron Pink. Both of these colours are from Tikkurila available online from The Paint Hub, an Irish business based in Carlow.

We carried these colours onto the furniture too. Giving new life to old pieces is always preferable to us. We only buy new furniture when we absolutely have to. With that in mind, I painted the top of the table with Raspberry Crumble and the body of the table Mezeron Pink.

All the pink!

To prepare the table I removed the metal tacks that were on it for decorative purposes. I gave it a good wipe down and then I sprayed it with Kalustepesu, left it for 10-15 minutes then wiped it away with a damp cloth. I couldn’t believe the excess grime that removed even though I’d wiped it down beforehand!

I decided to fill the grooves in the table. As I didn’t have a specific wood filler in the house, I used one I did have. It did the job grand!

I primed the entire table using white Otex Akva. This is a great primer and adheres to pretty much everything.

Once the primer was dry, I painted the body of the table with Everal Aqua in Mezeron Pink, which is the same paint we used on all the woodwork in the room. It is, for the moment, my absolute favourite shade of pink! I love pale pinks!!

For the top of the table, I used Helmi 30 in Raspberry Crumble. Helmi 30 is Tikkurila’s satin finish, water-based furniture paint. This is an incredibly durable coating that can withstand washing and scrubbing which makes it perfect for cabinets, doors and furniture!

Raspberry Crumble is from the Hansel House Design collection. I loved it as soon as I saw it and had decided long before we ever started the work on the sitting room that this would be the main colour. I just adore it on the furniture too.

Disclaimer: I was not asked to mention any companies in this post. I bought and paid for everything used in this project myself. I have no affiliation with the Paint Hub in Carlow, as regular readers know, I will always share information that is worth knowing!
