We didn’t make any plans for today, which was just as well as both boys are under the weather. Luckily, Netflix is on fire at the moment with its offerings for all the family so while the boys chill on the couch watching Lego, the fairy put plans for the afternoon into action.
She’s told them in no uncertain terms that we are watching movies, two of them, Hotel Transylvania and Hotel Transylvania 2. She’s seen them herself already, told the boys that they’re ‘just so funny’ and they will enjoy them.
All we need now are treats worthy of a spookfest. Miss A. had it sorted. If you follow me on Instagram (link below, click it!) you will have seen the fabulous Stranger Things Halloween hamper Netflix very kindly gifted us in time for this weekend. Among the many goodies were bone shaped sprinkles for cake decorating. My fairy has been itching to use them. So, Spooky Cakes it is.
270g Plain Flour
50g Caster Sugar
50g Cocoa Powder
50g Chocolate Chips
2tsps Baking Powder
100g Butter, melted
1tsp Vanilla Extract
75g Chocolate, melted to decorate
Preheat oven to 150 fan and line a muffin tin with cases.
Melt the butter and set aside.
Sieve the flour, cocoa, caster sugar and baking powder together into a large bowl.
Stir in the chocolate chips.
In a separate bowl whisk together melted butter, buttermilk, honey and vanilla.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and mix thoroughly.
Divide the mixture between the cupcake cases and bake for 20 minutes.
As the cakes bake, lick the spoon!
While the cakes cool on a wire rack, melt the chocolate and get ready to spookify your delights!
When the cakes are ready, it’s super important to taste test them.
As you can probably gauge from the photos, these were a success. The movie treats are ready, Netflix is ready, bank holiday we are ready!
In the meantime, once the kids come down from their self-induced sugar high I’ll be packing them off to bed and Mr Simply Homemade will be found engrossed in Stranger Things 2. It is living up to the hype, it’s just brilliant! My nerves watching it!
As a member of the Netflix Ireland Stream Team I have received complimentary Netflix membership and in return will be featuring Netflix related blog posts. All opinions are my own!
