The Blogger Interview

Thank you very much to the lovely OneYummyMummy for tagging me to do The Blogger Interview.

How did you get into blogging?

I have spoken about this before in Why Do I Blog. Feeling inspired having listened to a radio interview with one of Ireland’s most famous food bloggers, Lilly Higgins,  I initially started Simply Homemade as a means of sharing recipes with friends, family and any other welcome guests who stumbled upon my little blog.

Following a baby break, I got back to blogging with a bit more enthusiasm and rediscovered how much I enjoyed not only blogging but actually writing too. I have loved writing since I was a child. I am very conscious that Simply Homemade is a family food blog and I really didn’t want to veer from that too much so this little extension here was born earlier this year, where I am free to write as I wish.

What advice would you give to a blogger just starting out?

Be yourself. Find your voice and stay true to it, be honest and  always follow your instinct, believe in your work.

How has your blog changed since you started writing it?

Quite a bit I think, it has evolved naturally, my children are far more involved today than when I started which is brilliant. For me, my focus has shifted to healthy food and sugar free cooking/baking. My love affair with cupcakes has somewhat diminished!

What advice would you give to PR’s approaching you for a campaign?

Talk to me, I am very approachable. I will only promote a product/service I am likely to use myself, my opinions will only ever be honest and it’s not all about me!! I blog because I love it, not for stuff, so if I am approached to promote something, as great as it may be, if it does not ‘fit’ with either of my blogs, it’s not for me.

Do you have a plan for your blog?

No. I have plans for posts, but not for my blog. I like to think my blog will naturally progress, however fast or slow, it doesn’t matter, it’s my hobby. I think if I started to make plans for it, the enjoyment would be lost, it would turn into a chore, instead of the wonderfully enjoyable pastime it is now.

What do you think about rankings?

I don’t put a lot of emphasis on rankings. As I mentioned previously, this is a hobby for me, a thoroughly enjoyable hobby. I am thrilled that people take the time to read my blogs, honoured in fact and I am grateful to each and every person who does stop and read; and that is what they are to me, real people taking time to read something I have written, not numbers on a page. Each person is important, whether it is one or one thousand.

When I started blogging in 2011 I never heard anybody mention rankings or stats, blogging has moved forward at a rapid pace. I am so very lucky to be surrounded by a superb community of supportive bloggers and for that I am thankful.
