Keep the 27th & 28th May free, get yourself into Wexford and celebrate the 9th annual Wexford Food & Wine Festival. Every year this event has been getting bigger and better, with this years shaping up to be the best yet.
On Saturday & Sunday both South Main Street and Selskar Square play host to the Outdoor Food Producers Market, featuring local & regional and Welsh artisan producers. Food producers and growers will display fresh produce ranging from breads, cakes, ice cream, seasonal fruit including Wexford’s famed strawberries, eggs, cheese meat and much more! To add to the festival atmosphere a tasty side helping of family entertainment will also be provided. The list of exhibitors is extensive and includes fabulous food producers such as Zaeire, Jenny’s Cupcakes, Greenhills Fruit Farm, Thai Food Company & Wicklow Rapeseed Oil. Fulacht Fiadh” in the Irish National Heritage Park from 11am until 2pm
Radiocarbon dating indicates that the majority of fulachtaí fiadh were constructed during the mid to late Bronze Age (c.1500- c. 500 BC), though some Neolithic examples are known.It is postulated that these pits were filled with water and heated stones thrown in to create a pool of boiling water in which meat was cooked. Transport yourself back in time for this exciting demonstration.
“Baby Led Feeding” Demonstration @ 2pm in Wexford Library.

Baby Led Feeding is not about depriving children of treats, foods or sauces they love, it is about making healthier choices that taste amazing, getting little ones eating more vegetables in a delicious way and bringing your children on an incredible food adventure.
Guided Foraging @ 12 Noon
“Guided Foraging”. This fantastic Guided Foraging excursion is by Blackstairs Eco Trails will take place at 12 noon. Meeting at the Public Car Park, The Raven, Curracloe. Wear appropriate clothing. Children Under 12 Free. Cost €10 PP. Free Food Tastings and Recipes. Trips last 90 minutes.

New to the festival this year, in association with Wexford Masters Open Water Swim Club, there will be a 500mt & a 1000mt swim on Sunday morning at 10am in Rosslare Strand, followed by breakfast in Wild & Native with David & Stephen Flynn from The Happy Pear. Thursday May 25th to Sunday May 28th sees the return of the ‘South Main Ale Trail’ to Wexford; a showcase of the very best in Local and Irish Craft Beer, Cider and Spirits and runs alongside the ‘Wexford Food & Wine Festival’. Featuring a programme spanning three venues, Simon Lambert & Sons, The Sky & The Ground and Bugler Doyles, visitors will be treated to a wide range of entertainment, tasting sessions, food and opportunities to meet with brewers, distillers and other craft beer enthusiasts. We had a brilliant day out at the festival last year and I’m really looking forward to checking it out again this year. The 2017 festival programme will be bigger and better, providing a tasty schedule of mouth watering events for adults and children plus lots of entertainment, music and fun for all the family!
